Through the collective construction and activation of a counter-archive, participants respond visually to a contemporary issues using xerography techniques as a conscious act to liberate the photographic image, the copy becomes the original. There is a sense of urgency, and participants are confronted to a series of design problems they need to resolve. The results contribute to a proletarian visual archive where the creative process of its construction is as relevant as its content.
An eclectic archive composed of official, unofficial, corporative, community, personal, physical and onlineimages; where participants’ disseminate the results through public installation, digital platforms and publications. These experiences are registered and documented in a printed publication and a series of multimedia pieces showing some of the making-of. THE CAGE propose a discussion about the original function of images, their creators and the context they are circulated inviting participants to generate new interpretations and meanings around current socio-political issues.
